Your life, a light: How to put God first

Preview Article

Let’s take a look at the way the Bible was written, the first book is Genesis which symbolizes the beginning of all things. Take a look at the first verse of the first chapter. “Genesis 1:1 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.” This verse introduces an important personality called God.

Before the introduction of priests, the minor and major prophets, he was introduced first. Let’s apply this to us as humans, let it be that you as a man created in the likeness and image of God live according to the laid down rules of that Bible. Before twenty, fifteen, thirty, forty, fifty or as many chapters of your life is introduced, let God be introduced and seen first. That the beginning and end of all things be seen first in your life before any other thing is seen. Before that success is seen, before that your huge account balance is seen, let him be seen first.

In whom do we have assurance? In God of course, so if he doesn’t come before anything in your life, then in who is your assurance?

If he is not seen in your life, I can’t assure you a safe ride because without Jesus in your boat, be rest assured your boat will capsize. Don’t throw God away in the days of your youth and seek him when you are old. Ecclesiastes 12:1 “Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them. A life without God is a life of gloom. A life that hasn’t accepted the advocate of the father’s love as his saviour is still a life living in decadence. In Genesis 1:2 “And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. The earth God created had problems if you look at the verse above, but do you know the problem God addressed first? Genesis 1:3 “And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. He addressed the issue of light first.

Ride with me, I’m heading somewhere. This gives you an hint that whatever it is that might not be going on in your life, you must address the issue of darkness first. When there is light, your sight becomes useful, you know who and where to turn to. Regardless of how brilliant you are, how much money you make or whatever it is that you have, without light, you will still stumble. When there is darkness, your sight is as good as nothing and the only thing that can help you navigate is light. Light and darkness cannot stay together. The intensity of the light depends on the proximity of the light. The degree of the strength of which ever light will shine and overcome darkness depends on the nearness of that light to where darkness is.

Your relationship with the being that is called LIGHT determines how bright your life will shine. You are an extension of the light, your job to make it light shine.

Matthew 5:14 “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. The one that is called LIGHT has set you as one on earth to show forth he that is called LIGHT, to project his image to the world. Matthew 5:15 “Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. The light that you have gotten to light the world with is not meant to be hidden, when light is hidden, darkness will surely take over. But let that light be seen so that it can give light to everyone you meet, to everyone you speak to, to everyone you collaborate with, not just to a particular set of people but to everybody. Matthew 5:16 “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Let men know whose light you carry, let that light in you shine before everyone you communicate with. In your works, let that light be seen, now, this doesn’t deal with your spiritual life alone, the light of whom you carry is a king of excellence.

Let it not be that your light is dim in one aspect of your life. Be a Christian that’s in whichever field that you are, not someone that is in one field and is a Christian. Get it right, I am a mass communication student and I am a Christian that is in mass communication department and not a student in mass communication department that is a Christian. There is difference between the two. In whatever you set your hands on, let that light radiate, don’t hide that light, don’t let it go dim, let that light do it’s work. Look at you, you are a light that cannot be hidden, light that knows and lives according to it’s worth.
